Colorful Cascades Sunrise

There was a beautiful sunrise in northwest Washington this morning. These shots were taken by an AAI long-time-friend and widely published photographer Keith Gunnar. They were taken from Keith’s home on the southern end of Whidbey island with some small (nearly-coastal) peaks of the northern Cascades in the distance.

Keith, who has been photographing such things for many decades said, “We had one of the most spectacular sunrises I've ever seen today. The whole eastern sky was exploding with color, and there was an unusual pillar of light from the sun. Cascade Mountains nicely silhouetted. Very dramatic!”

Thanks Keith!

  1. I'm here in Breckenridge, Colorado, admiring the sunset you posted, Keith.

At age 79, I've only been able to manage swimming (grew up in Florida), skiing (once in Stowe, Vermont) biking (when I was a kid) and horseback riding.

Alpine adventure? It may have to wait for the next life, if there is one, indeed.

    Thanks for a beautiful blog!

  2. Hi Ellen--

Glad you liked the photos. It was an amazing sunrise, one of the best I've ever seen. I'm a year ahead of you at age 80 and consider anyone under 80 to still be a kid. :-) I'm still active in travel and adventuring, but no longer do the hard climbing and backpacking--more into biking, canoeing, day hikes, etc. and still travel widely. Just got back from a month in Tanzania and next trip is kayaking in the Philippines next March.

You live in a great place too. As a "mountain man" I love all the western states plus western Canada, not to mention Alaska, the Alps, Andes and Himalayas.

    Cheers!
