Yes...I loved your point about the piton coming out. Yes, I was squirming in my seat for that part (saw it on first release in the theater in Germany). I agree that the love interest distortion of the story is a small price to pay for what is on the whole a great climbing film. BTW, the footage at the beginning in the Berchtesgaden Alps really looks to be on the mountain that they made a first ascent on...the route is still popular today.Michael Stantonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08817583770087094918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352166344614826568.post-68894483758486751402012-09-14T15:02:38.086-07:002012-09-14T15:02:38.086-07:00I saw it a couple of years ago too. Cheapened what is a tragic part of the Eiger's history. There was plenty of drama in the truth and the filmmakers could have made a brilliant film from the facts. Instead, they chose to descend into high farce.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3352166344614826568.post-11931715998254528032012-09-14T12:42:57.486-07:002012-09-14T12:42:57.486-07:00Excellent review, Jason. I didn't pick up on the relationship between the sound of the pitons and the music, though, so you've piqued my interest — I might have to watch it again.

Thanks for reminding me.pohanginapetehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11463792721091291063noreply@blogger.com
