EVERETT, WA, Aug. 5--Hannegan Road, FS Road 32, on Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is open, making access to the Mt. Baker Wilderness and the North Cascades National Park a little easier. “Today we are officially opening the road after completing storm damage repairs,” said Jim Mitchell, Forest Service project leader. Floods closed the road last winter, forcing people to hike five extra miles to reach the Hannegan Pass/Peak trailheads. The Hannegan road is commonly used to access Hannegan Pass, the Northern Pickets and Ruth Mountain.
Work continues on Glacier Creek Road, which Mitchell estimates will be finished by the end of August. Contact the Glacier Public Service Center at 360-599-2714 for trail and road information in the Glacier area.
